Infrared Filter Photography Sony a6700
I used my Sony a6700 and Sigma 18-50 lens with an Infrared Photography Filter to make some practice photos. I'm getting ready for our trip to Las Vegas and Disneyland where I hope to do some Infrared work. Overall I ended up being pretty happy with these long exposure infrared Waffle House and KFC images. :)

    It's all fun and games with the CD3W until you need to shoot a portrait. Flip it over, and there's no way to adjust the up/down camera tilt using the 3 knobs. You have to twist the camera on the mounting plate, at which point it starts to unscrew. Please correct me if I'm missing something or using it wrong.

    Maybe you have a bad copy? I remember years ago when the EF 100-400 just came out. Most were thrilled with it, but a handful of photographers were complaining that it just was not sharp. Turned out, some of them weren't. Before you sell it I would send it to Canon to have it checked. I just got mine and it seems quite sharp at 800 f9. I have a friend who got his a month ago and has been shooting it extensively, and he is thrilled to death with the thing. Nearly all the other UA-cam guys and gals are happy as well. Of course, and you know this, a lens that long shines filling the frame with relatively close subjects (small birds are perfect), and not trying to bring in distant subjects (due to atmospheric interference...unless conditions are ideal). Clearly, it does have some drawbacks (f9), but for the price! And the reach!

      Great suggestion. I sent mine in last month. Unfortunately, according to Canon, my lens is functioning normally. I can get some pretty sharp shots with it, just not as sharp as I'd like.

    I just purchased a Z8 and the best feature of that body is the ability to use full IBIS for lenses that don't have a VR system on it. You're getting way more VR to go lower shutter speeds when hand held. I'm curious to know how good is the weather sealing on this specific lens and when used in conjunction with the FTZ II adapter on the new mirrorless systems. I know for sure that the FTZ II is weather sealed and so is the Z8. Just wanna know if you ever got caught up in inclement weather with this lens on.

It costs $15 (unless they’ve gone up…🤦🏻‍♂️) but worth it. You are fenced in but there are a few larger holes that you can shoot through. You can get some good shots of the strip as the sun goes down and the casino lights become prominent. 👍🏻

Many people do not have the money for an R3 or Z9 and a lack of a crop factor on both is a disadvantage at times.

    how is the EVF with spectacles? being only 1 cm, is it easy to use with spectacles?

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach 5 днів тому

      I don’t know because I don’t use my reading glasses when I looked through the EVF. The EVF and the rear screen are definitely the weakest parts of this camera in my opinion.

    6:37 I've been in that alley a couple times in the past month and never notice that broken light fixture. Good spot on that

    Excellent, inspirational content as usual, Phil! You have a gift for making interesting subjects out of everyday stuff. I have GOT to make a street photography trip to Chattanooga!

    Enjoyed this street photography vlog Phil. At 10:39 in - I would’ve laid the wine glass on its side and tried to get the lipstick in focus. 💋 Enjoyed all the photos and your dialog. 👍🏼💜👍🏼

    R7’s AF challenges are holding the 100-500 back a bit. The R6/100-400 combo look great ! 😮 Just from my eyeballs….

    Quick question Phil: In this instance, with the focal plane kind of being the same as opposed to say, a flower slanted away from or towards the camera, do you think f/8,9,or 10 would've given you a pretty sharp image as if you focus stacked? Probably not huh? (I pulled the trigger on upgrading from the EOS R to the R5, it should be here in about a week.)

    • @PhilThach
      @PhilThach 6 днів тому

      Yes, in this example, I didn’t really present a difficult stack. And a small aperture could have gotten pretty close. I have a couple of other videos that show a much more difficult example. I think the original R5 will do focus bracketing, but it does not make a depth composite in camera. you can use the individual files to your own in third-party software.

      @@PhilThach I'm relatively new to focus stacking/bracketing, what is a "depth composite in camera?" I use ACR and Photoshop for all my image editing.
